The house
A merchant’s house, brought back to life
The house was built in the late nineteenth century for a family of Jeddah merchants, a few steps from Souq Al Alawi. Its four storeys rose in coral stone, and its façade was dressed in teak rawshans that gave the family both the breeze and their privacy.
After many quiet years, Jeddah craftsmen restored it using the same traditional methods — lime plaster, stone and hand-carved wood. Today it opens its doors to guests who want to live Al-Balad from the inside, not just pass through it.
